Located in the northwest suburban area of Beijing's Haidian district, Fragrant Hills is the most famous park in Beijing to admire the red leaves in fall. The best time to admire the red leaves, which are mostly smoke trees and maple trees, is from the end of September to the beginning of November. The Fragrant Hills Red Leaves Festival was open on October 12th this year and lasted 26 days at the Fragrant Hills.

1. Historical Ancient Path
Start from the east gate of the Fragrant Hills and turn left to reach the Jingcui Lake. Walk through the Cuiwei Pavilion, the Shuangqing Villa and the Fragrant Hills Temple to get to the ancient path by which emperors climbed to appreciate sceneries of the mountain. Walk along the path up to the top of the mountain, the best place for tourists to view the red leaves. It takes around one hour and a half to reach the top.
2. Cable car
It only takes 17 minutes to get to the top by cable car. You can take the car from the north gate of the Fragrant Hills, and all the way to the top of the mountain, where tourists can have a panoramic view of the red leaves carpeting the mountain.
