Zhongguancun Science Park was recognized as a “herald of national technical innovation” at the 15th China Economic Forum in Beijing.
The announcement cited entrepreneur Steve Blank was cited to show that start-up companies have mushroomed in China and brought tremendous changes to the capital.
From January to September this year, 18,399 high-tech companies were set up at the park, a year-on-year increase of 25 percent. By the end of September, companies in the science park registered 43,113 patents, accounting for about 63 percent of the patents in the city.
In 2014, technology transaction contracts in the science park surpassed 310 billion yuan ($ 47.8 billion), taking up round 40 percent of the country’s total.
Nearly 20,000 big names, such as Lenovo and Baidu, have gathered here and an industrial cluster in mobile Internet, biotech, renewable energy, and other fields has taken shape.
The China Economic Forum was initiated by the China Economic Weekly in 2000. In 2014, “China innovation model” was set up as part of the forum and 10 people or companies who do well in product innovation, technology innovation or institutional innovation are selected each year.
