  1. Tombs sweeping


  The Qingming Festival is a very important day for mourning the dead and people visit their ancestors' graves in that day, during which They tidy up, remove weeds and sweep away leaves from the surface of the graves. This is why Qingming is also known as the Tomb Sweeping Day. Nowadays, a lot of families burn spirit money and paper replicas of material goods to remember and honour their ancestors. As the green concept becomes more and more popular in morden times, "greener sweeping" is taken by young generations.

  2. Taqing (Spring Outing)


  The Qingming Festival is the best time for Taqing, or a spring outing, as the sun shines brightly, the trees and grass become green and nature is again lively. At this time, some scenic spots which close during the winter are reopened, thus it is a fine time to go out and visit these spots. It is how lovely to get out and enjoy the early blossoms before summer. Since ancient times, people have followed the custom of Spring outings.


  3. Swinging


  Swings are very popular among people especially children and are usually found on playgrounds. As a popular custom on qingming festival, swinging not only stops the chillness from eating cold food, but also develops a child’s bravery. you can hear the tinkling laugh here and there from the children who are swinging which can risen your hope and happiness from the deep heart, and you can’t help laughing at the same time.


  4. Kite Flying


  Flying kites is also an important custom enjoyed by many people, young and old, during the Qingming Festival. Ever using for military purposes, Kites now were just used for fun and wish. People usually fly their kites as high as possible, and then let go of the string which means taking away bad luck and illness.


  5. Cuju


  Cuju is a popular sport during this season, which is similar with kicking foot ball. It is said that The Yellow Emperor invented Cuju and train his soldiers through it which immediately welcomed by the soldiers. From then on, Cuju becomes more and more popular among all kinds of people.




  6. Painting


  During the Qingming festival season, painting lovers, no matter adults or children, can’t wait to go out for painting, as the warm weather and beautiful scenery can bring numerous inspirations for them. One of China's most famous works of art ,Qingming Shanghetu which is now exhibited at the The Forbidden City is just produced by Zhang Zeduan during this season of the Northern Song Dynasty.
