  The Summer Palace

 

  Don't know where to go boating in Beijing? The Summer Palace is the largest existing and best preserved royal garden in China. Kunming Lake, in the Summer Palace, is the most attractive water area in the suburb of Beijing. The lake has an area of 3,000 mu, taking up three quarters of the whole park. In summer and autumn, a large number of visitors come to the palace to take a holiday. Pleasure boats, dragon boats, rowing boats, pedal boats and battery boats are all available in the Summer Palace.

  Peak season: 06:30-18:00 (April 1st-October 31st)

 

  Low season: 07:00-17:00 (November 1st-March 31st)

  As one of the 11 large parks in Beijing, it is located in the suburbs, and half of the park area is water. The best times to visit Yuyuantan Park are in April, May, and June, because that's when the flowers are in bloom. During this time of the year, peach trees, cherry trees and tulips are in full blossom. In the cool weather of Beijing, people can enjoy beautiful flowers while rowing boats.

  Transportation: take bus 1, 99, 308, 337 or 728 and get off at the Military Museum. Alternatively, take bus 32, 65, 78 or 414 and get off at Yuyuantan. Or take Tunnel Line 1 and get off at the Military Museum.

Yuyuantan Park

 

  Purple Bamboo Park

 

  Located outside Xizhimen, Purple Bamboo Park is a park based on a waterscape, and it is decorated with bamboo. This natural garden park has the rich features of southern gardens. The park covers 47.35 hectares, and one third of the area is water.

 

  If you are going to visit this park, you can take a boat via the Empress Waterway to the Summer Palace and the Old Summer Palace. The scenery along the waterway is very nice. It is said that this waterway was dug with the military expenditure of the Beiyang Navy for the pleasure of Empress Dowager Cixi.

  Make preparations for skin protection and heatstroke prevention (medicine, a hat and sunglasses).

 

  Take enough drinking water.

 

  Watch out when the wind blows and try not to go into the deep water any further. If you are not good at mastering a boat, the boat may turn upside down.
