The summer palace is very famous in the world not only because it is an ingenious combination of manmade architecture with the scenic beauty of nature, but also it is an architectural masterpiece and treasure of the traditional art of Chinese gardening. The summer palace harmoniously combines artificial and natural attractions into a picturesque landscape.
Hence, it is an ideal place to invite guests and friends having a visit. Our dear premier and the first lady also have the same idea.
At the dusk of June 12th, before a small talk, Premier Li Keqiang and German Chancellor Angela Merkel took a walk in the summer palace for 20 minutes.
Under the setting sun and towering trees, the two leaders met at the east palace gate, and then walked to the Pavilion of Heralding Spring, along a winding tree-lined path. Premier Li said, “the summer palace is one of the best choice for tourists home and abroad”.
Viewing the wonderful landscapes of lake and mountain, premier Li introduced to the friend from far away, “the tower on the mountain is calledTower of Buddhist Incense, and it is a 18th century’s building; the largest bridge in the summer palace is named 17-Arch Bridge… these are all famous attractions inside the summer palace.
At last, the two counterparts had a small conference in an ancient courtyard with red door and grey tile. Then, they together had the dinner there. The planned one hour’s supper prolonged to two hours and 15 minutes as they talked very well. After came out of the banquet hall, the sunset had already become a moonlight.
On November11, 2014, Peng Liyuan, Chinese first lady, also invited many friends to visit the Summer Palace. They are wives of the leaders or representatives of some economies who attend the 2014 APEC leaders' informal meeting.
Guided by Peng liyuan, they visited the Hall of Benevolence and Longevity, Long Corridor, and other attractions. When visiting the Kunming Lake on a boat, with a smiling, Peng said, “We come from all over the world, and it is a rare fate for us to take a same boat. I believe the activity of today will further deepen our mutual understanding and friendship.” The beautiful scenery left a wonderful and unforgettable memory for the wives and they took many photos there.
Hence, if we have friends who come to Beijing, please follow the steps of our premier and first lady, taking them to the summer palace, undoubtedly!
