Na’s Little Restaurant is located right on the foot of the Fragrant Hill, the opposite side of the Beijing Botanical Garden and it’s so away from the business street that allowing you to enjoy a moment of peace in the city. The restaurant was decorated by its owner whom is a descendent of house Na, categorized to the royal yellow ensign, which is the top one of the Qing dynasty eight ensigns. It is absolutely private from the architecture pattern design to the selection of woodiness, from the purchase of chairs and tables to the arrangement of accessories.
It is said that Na’s Little Restaurant is used to be a teahouse with a humble front. However it will surly amaze you as you enter---stone floor, two-storey building with bamboo structure, vigor plants, a bird who can speak Beijing dialect and soft lighting that creates a noble feeling of ‘ancient tranquility under the moon”.
The owner of Na’s Little Restaurant has a family name of Na, which is a descendent of Manchuria family Huifanala, royal yellow ensign. Their ancestor was the imperial physician of emperor Huangtaiji. Because the imperial physicians had constant access to the royal chief for medicated diets, the descendents of house Ha have been all chiefs. The essence has run in the family from generations to generations. Ancestors of house Na had lived in the Fragrance Hill area, west suburb of Beijing and the restaurant is rebuilt on the ancestral home and it has been over 200 years old.
The most amazing feeling bout dinning in the restaurant is that you can feel the fine selection of raw materials and the authentic, special royal dishes when you have your first bite. The owner doesn't want to turn the restaurant into private home cuisines or some kind of fixed dishes. He only has one goal: to make everyone enjoy royal cuisine. So he services his best dish “The Imperial Jar”. Only the difference is that he uses the material that has the same effects yet much less price- fish lips.
First class fish lips are being used in Na’s Little Restaurant, matching with wild fugues, cooking in an ancient secret way, interpreting the new royal dish- The Imperial Jar. It requires domestic hens, overnight light-fire stewing, together with Jinhua Ham, scallops, keeping flavor with shark’s fin soup, as well as beauty-reserved, healthy and detoxifying fish lips, deer sinew, bird bars and all kinds of wild mushrooms. It has long-lasting tastes and rich nutrition. This dish is best to enjoy in 3 steps: firstly, when the jar is on the table, smelling the delicacy and enjoying the soup as it’s still hot. This is the step 1; then adding a hint of red vinegar to the jar according to personal likes, it tastes special, that's step 2; step 3 is to pour rice in the jar, it brings out good appetite and it’s memorable.
